This article will clarify the definition of Health Related Fitness and show the distinctions between them.

Does it just all come down to a name?The concept of Health Related Fitness is used by the fitness industry as a general principle. It can be interchangeable with other fitness principles like "Physical Fitness", Health and Fitness, or simply "Fitness."

All of these terms may be combined under the umbrella term Health and Physical Fitness. However, each refers to different aspects, both specific and generic. These and other terms related to fitness are often used in vague ways. There is little consistency in their intended uses. While there is some "generally accepted" usage, individuals will often interpret them differently, which can cause confusion.

So does Health Related Fitness just refer to fitness through good health? Not quite. This is why it is important to get to know the meaning behind these words before we can understand them.

How did Health Related Physical Fitness become a term?

This is a great question. This is a good question. "Why Health "Related?"

This is due to the fact that many health and fitness terms are inconsistently used and can refer to different concepts and notions. Following the 1996 report by the US Surgeon general (Physical activity and health; a report by the Surgeon General) there was an effort to address the alarming increase in obesity among the American public. To tackle the problem, studies and initiatives needed to be standardized among doctors, trainers and health professionals. According to the American College of Sports Medicine, the leading authority in this field of medicine, confusion has been caused by ineffective definitions that are unclear or subjective, and definitions that contain terms that require definition.


Because the term "Physical Fitness" has been defined so inconsistently and loosely, there is no standard for Health and Fitness professionals to measure it. It is , therefore that you should think about the concept of Health Related Fitness. This definition focuses on 5 components of physical fitness that relate to "good-health". These Components include:

    Cardiorespiratory Fitness

    Body Composition

    Flexibility

    Muscular Strength

    Muscular Endurance

Skill Related Fitness Components, on the other hand, are:

    Balance

    Reaction Time

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Physical Fitness is defined as the ability to exercise regularly. Different There are two types of fitness: Athletic Ability Physical Fitness and Health Related Physical Fitness. Its point of departure is the "healthiness" of the US, also known as the "public-health perspective". The 5 Health Related Fitness Components have a greater importance than the components related to Athletic Ability or Skill Related Components.

The concept of Health Related Fitness is often associated with "good health", but the five components are each by healthcare professionals to enable measurement.

Each of the 5 components contributes equally to a holistic Health Related Fitness. This concept is normative and is directly relevant to the general health of every citizen. It is also a standard that allows for consistent applications.

It is important that those in the health and fitness sector do not confuse "overall physical fit" with "Health Related Personal fitness".
